The Smetana’s Litomyšl festival is the second oldest music festival in the Czech Republic, and at the same time it is among the largest regular classical music festivals held in the country. The theme of this year's edition is the beautiful Belle Époque period - it falls on the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It dabbled in a whole range of modern art styles, such as Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Cubism and others. After careful consideration, the geometric concept won out, inspired, for example, by the art and craft workshops of the Wiener Wärkstätte from the first half of the 20th century.
These workshops made extensive use of high-contrast geometric patterns on everyday objects, such as home textiles, fashion, ceramics, etc.
We were excited by the possibility of "dress up" the city in a distinctive pattern during the festival. The geometric pattern is completely composed of the letters of the Quercus Serif font, which is the main font of the festival. The festival consists of several parts, which is why it comes with three patterns: S - for the main pattern of Smetana's Litomyšl, Z - for the Festival Gardens, V - for Smetana's artistic Litomyšl. The last letter of the pattern deliberately falls slightly downwards and expresses the fragility. It symbolically connects our time and that time. It is therefore very important to keep reminding ourselves that the preservation of a beautiful time requires the contribution of all of us.
