The Downtown project is an initiative that originated in Pula with the aim of promoting the local music and art scene and encouraging young people to express their creativity through music and socializing. In line with this vision, a visual identity for the year 2023 was designed to highlight its uniqueness and attract the attention of the audience.The main visual component of the festival is a poster that represents the relaxed and fun atmosphere of Downtown. Illustration, as an integral part, incorporates unfinished elements to provide viewers with the opportunity to shape their own story.
This subtle gap in the illustration stimulates creative thinking and encourages the audience to independently connect the depicted elements. The main elements of the illustration are the stairs and an old fence that are specific to that part of the city.
A moon is also added as a symbol of the festival's nighttime events. Additionally, the poster portrays elements of a person in a relaxed posture, associated with the festival atmosphere. The visual identity was created with the aim of arousing curiosity to discover everything the festival has to offer.In addition to posters and event announcements, vibrant visuals of various colors were created for the artists who will perform at Downtown to help create a distinctive visual aesthetic.
Simona Uzelac, born in 1995 in Osijek (Croatia), was naturally drawn to graphic design due to her love for art, psychology, and computers. She developed a passion for illustration from an early age and began learning graphic design before even entering high school.After completing her education at the School of Applied Arts and Design in Osijek, Simona decided to further explore the field of graphic design. In 2020, she earned a master's degree in Visual Communications and Graphic Design from the Academy of Applied Arts in Rijeka. Prior to that, she obtained a diploma in Art Pedagogy, specializing in graphics, where she focused intensively on illustration.Throughout her career, Simona has participated in 10 group exhibitions in the fields of illustration and design. She has also been involved in several mural painting projects. She finds joy in projects that are connected to culture, allowing her to express her creativity and apply her knowledge of illustration in design.Simona continuously develops her skills in graphic design, always open to new ideas and challenges. Her passion for design and desire for creative expression inspire her to constantly strive for progress.
