An exploration of the illusion of floating combined with the reality of stability.

Project

Gravity is a student project developed during the third year of studies at the Academy of Fine Arts. The design of the Gravity table is inspired by the concept of lightness and stability. The main goal was to create a piece of furniture that appears to float, challenging the traditional perception of a table. Invisible supports and carefully positioned contact points further emphasize this floating illusion. Although the Gravity table gives the impression of lightness, it is extremely stable and functional, ensuring safety and durability in everyday use.

Author

Merisa Sokol is a product design student at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Sarajevo. During her time at the School of Applied Arts, she developed a deep passion for design and the creation of innovative, aesthetically driven products.

Her work is based on the belief that design is not just a visual expression but a complex harmony of functionality and emotional resonance. She considers emotions to be key in creating quality and inspiring products. She believes that masterpieces emerge from the blend of scientific principles and emotional qualities, resulting in objects that are not only visually appealing but also emotionally significant.

For her, design represents more than just an aesthetic experience—it is an art form that combines scientific insights, creativity, and innovation. Through her work, she aims to explore and apply new approaches that integrate these elements, creating products that not only meet functional requirements but also foster an emotional connection with users.
