ZGDW 2024 / JADRAN FILM
The XI Zagreb Design Week is scheduled to take place from September 25 to 29, 2024 at Jadran Film. This year's theme is "Breaking the Glass Ceiling: Design Revolution". Italy is the partner country. The event will be held at the cult film studios in Dubrava, the largest Croatian design venue. The newly renovated location consists of buildings constructed in the 1950s, which will house the ZGDW AWARD finalists' exhibition, as well as exhibitions from faculties, schools, market stalls, and installations. ZGDW 2024 will feature seven international exhibitions from Italy, Spain, the USA, Chile, and Mexico. The park stage will host lectures, screenings, and concerts. Entrance to all events is free. Stay tuned for more details!
THE GLASS CEILING
BREAKING
REVOLUTION IN DESIGN
The theme of Zagreb Design Week 2024 is "Breaking the Glass Ceiling." It signifies our commitment to diversity, equality, creativity, and collaboration in design. We aim to challenge the existing norms, remove barriers, and create a more inclusive and innovative future for design. With this theme, we seek to initiate discussions and promote diversity and inclusivity. The metaphor of the "Glass Ceiling" represents the unseen obstacles that hinder the progress of individuals, particularly those from underrepresented social groups.
We aim to establish a platform that embraces diverse perspectives and talents, fostering a more dynamic and innovative design community. Our goal is to challenge the traditional design paradigms. The "glass ceiling" represents the entrenched design norms and practices that stifle creativity and innovation. This theme encourages designers to question and push the boundaries of established norms. We intend to motivate the design community to break new ground and revolutionize the way we approach design.
PARTNER COUNTRY:
ITALY
Italy is synonymous with design. The influence of Italian designers on design globally, and especially in Croatia, as the first neighbour, is immeasurable. On the other hand, the influence of Italian designers remained almost unknown. To change that, we are preparing an exhibition, especially for ZGDW about their work throughout history, from the 1950s to today. Together with the exhibition of the history and evolution of Calligaris design, we are presenting these two exhibitions in the Italian Pavilion. Saturday, Sep 28, will be dedicated to Italian design with a series of lectures and panels, guest appearances by Italian designers and screenings of documentaries. The program is organized in cooperation with the Embassy of Italy in Zagreb.
