The inspiration for the book came from the comment, "Maybe it's the other way around," on a news story about the rape of two girls. The book has no back cover but instead features two front covers and can be read from either side. Each side provides insight into the issue of violence against women. The girls' stories are accompanied by illustrations inspired by animals that are considered terrifying in various mythologies and are often associated with women.
