The waste we dispose of in nature ultimately ends up on our plates through the food chain.

Project

Bon Appétit! project aims to encourage people to think about littering, emphasizing how all the waste we discard ends up on our plates through plants and animals. Numerous studies have shown that plastic fragments from people who do not recycle plastic waste affect health. Experts are most concerned about nanoplastics, as these tiny particles can invade individual cells and tissues in major organs, potentially disrupting cellular processes and depositing chemicals that interfere with the endocrine system. Four posters have been created, each featuring a traditional Croatian dish from a specific region. But is littering part of our tradition? Each poster shows a plate of food contaminated with pieces of plastic waste.

This striking image poses the question: Would we eat this food if the plastic fragments were not nano-sized and invisible to the naked eye? The project urges people to be aware of their actions because everything we do affects our future on Earth and our health. By highlighting how waste can enter our food chain through plants and animals, "Bon Appétit!" challenges people to think twice before discarding waste. The project serves as a powerful reminder that our negligence can directly impact us in the most personal way- on our plates. Through this initiative, we hope to inspire more responsible waste disposal behaviour, emphasizing that every small action plays a significant role in preserving our environment and health.
