Nike Vrbica, a young designer and artist behind the Salicula brand, recently unveiled her latest collection for fall-winter 2024 titled "Painting the Ethereal." This collection marks the completion of her master's degree in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb.
In this collection, Vrbica combines her two passions—painting and fashion—using "upcycling" principles. She chose second-hand clothing as her canvas, decorating it with abstract golden brushstrokes. Additionally, she introduced new Salicula summer t-shirts in various lengths and colors, made from surplus materials, featuring romantic Baroque-inspired motifs of clouds and hearts.
The collection also includes unique pieces made from gathered material scraps, with reflective details for both daytime and evening wear. All pieces in the collection are available for personalized painting on request, and the clothing is designed for both men and women. This eclectic fusion of fashion and painting is documented through the photographs of Zvonimir Ferina.
Nika Vrbica, Master of Arts and Master of Textile Design Engineering, has been a member of the Croatian Association of Artists (HDLU) since 2023. She is a Croatian intermedia artist and advocate of "slow fashion." Vrbica combines painting and fashion design in her exploration of sustainability, drawing inspiration from natural forms and colors, as well as personal themes such as trauma from consciousness and the subconscious.
Her fashion brand, Salicula, founded in 2021, reflects her artistic signature and is intended for art enthusiasts and those who are not afraid to stand out with bright colors and patterns. The brand, which views fashion as an art form, presents one or two ready-to-wear collections annually, including mini and extended lines. In addition, Vrbica creates conceptual artworks and fashion beyond her collections.
