Project

Fairy Boroughs is a literary-interactive mobile application for children and youth. The app features fables, fairy tales, and urban stories in audio format, activated via geolocation while walking through the green areas of Zagreb. Voices of Croatian actors, sound effects, and original music create an experience similar to a radio drama. Using open data provided by the City of Zagreb, the stories have also been placed in front of 300 kindergartens, with new stories changing daily. The project combines literature, technology, and urban space, encouraging children and families to explore and listen actively. The app is free, accessible, and regularly updated. Some of the content is available in sign language, enabling inclusive participation for children with hearing impairments and those who do not speak Croatian. In addition, content is available in English so that young tourists can experience Zagreb in a new way—through stories that bring its culture, nature, and everyday life to life. The project is developed by the artistic organization YELO, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Croatia, the City of Zagreb, the Zagreb Tourist Board, and in collaboration with the Croatian Association of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.
