„Unda“ is a collection of porcelain waterware – a carafe and a set of cups – inspired by the wave as a symbol of rhythm, movement, and Mediterranean ease. The name derives from the Latin unda, meaning wave. The collection’s form follows the logic of the sea’s motion: soft curves, fluid lines, and a rhythmic flow captured in solid material. Porcelain was chosen for its strength, whiteness, and smooth surface that reflects light like a calm sea. Its refinement and durability make it the perfect vessel for water – pure, thoughtfully designed, and enduring. The project was developed using modern technology: the shape was modelled in 3D software, 3D printed, and turned into a plaster mold for casting liquid porcelain. This process merges the precision of digital design with the tradition of ceramics, pushing the craft’s relevance in today’s design context. „Unda“ is more than a functional object – it invites presence and offers a moment of stillness in an otherwise fast-paced world, designed for water and everyday use.
Ijan Prelac, born in Čakovec in 2000, is a visual communication designer with a degree from Algebra University College, majoring in Market Communication Design. He graduated from the School of Applied Arts in Rijeka, specializing in industrial design. His work combines hands-on experience with materials such as ceramics and thoughtful visual storytelling, often inspired by local identity and heritage. He is particularly interested in how form, texture, and material origin can communicate a sense of place. He has participated in several group and solo exhibitions focusing on contemporary Croatian design that reinterprets local traditions. With his project „Quattro Terre“ – a limited series of ceramic bottles made from four types of Istrian clay – he won first place at Zagreb Design Week 2024, exhibited at Barcelona Design Week, and was featured in the Croatian Design Exhibition 23/24. He completed his professional internship at Studio Sonda and gained international experience as part of the design team at the ICDC Challenge in Lisbon, working on a cover concept for VOGUE Portugal. His work is defined by storytelling, attention to detail, and strong sensitivity to material and context.
