Flexible furniture system with integrated storage for multifunctional student spaces

Project

The Limina furniture system is designed for the B building at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing in Zagreb. The system consists of four main elements: a table, a stool, a chair with a backrest, and a shelf/partition. The elements are made of wood with colored perforated metal sheets. One of the issues the system addresses is the lack of storage space. Research showed that students felt they did not have enough space for their belongings on the desk, so all elements were designed with integrated storage solutions.
Another focus of the project was adaptability. The tables can be easily arranged next to each other for group work or used individually. The shelf/partition provides storage but also creates additional privacy for studying. Wheels allow easy movement, enabling the space to be adapted for different purposes. The system is flexible for the multifunctional spaces at FER, and the partitions allow rooms and corridors to be divided to resemble a library with separate zones for groups or individual students. The goal of the Limina furniture system is to help students adapt the space to their needs. The design is simple, durable, and unobtrusive, while the metal panels add freshness and color to the environment.

Lana Veble, Beata Kopčić, and Martina Ramljak are third-year students of the School of Design at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb. Their diverse interests and areas of expertise contributed to the development and realization of the Limina project.
Lana Veble is also active as a fitness trainer and, through her projects, explores ways of combining the world of fitness with design. Her work Home Bench, presented at ZGDW 2024, is a functional piece of furniture designed for daily exercise at home without compromising the space’s aesthetics.
Martina Ramljak became the organizer of the 9th DA! Festival in 2024—a student festival of architecture, art, and design—where she and her colleagues created the visual identity, guest program, and promotional materials. That same year, she and her team won first prize at the Global Game Jam. In 2025, she won third prize in the visual arts category at the 10th DA! Festival.
Beata Kopčić studied in Zagreb and at KISD in Germany, where she worked on a project focused on biomaterials. As part of her studies in Zagreb, she designed Play-Stolje, presented at ZGDW 2024. In addition to product design, she is involved in illustration, and her work from the Ajd nacrtaj neš! workshop was exhibited at the French Institute.
