The project 190 Years marks the anniversary of the first issue of Narodne novine, originally published as Novine Horvatzke. Conceived as a special edition annual report, the publication highlights the tradition, reliability, and longevity of Narodne novine as an institution. Although today the company mainly operates as a retail chain for office supplies, the focus of the publication is on its original function as an official gazette. The layout is divided into two parts, a financial report and a historical overview with a chronology, both sections using the same typographic grid, referencing the design and layout of historical issues. The corporate colors, red and blue, are merged into a single palette, symbolizing the institution’s endurance and continuity through various political and historical contexts.
Filip Vrcić is a Croatian designer and illustrator specializing in visual communications. He is a student at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Architecture, School of Design, where he contributed to the visual identity for the project Birthday of Art and the opera performance Hippolytus and Aricia at MUZA, in collaboration with Katja Malešević and mentor Inja Kavurić Kireta. Vrcić was selected as one of the illustrators for the Spaces of Tolerance exhibition, where he presented the work titled Tolerate THIS. Additionally, his work was featured at the DA! Festival 2025, where he was awarded for the project 190 Years of Narodne novine in the visual communications category.
