Book covers for Danish author Tove Dietlevsen’s trilogy: “Childhood”, “Youth”, and “Addiction”, also known as The Copenhagen Trilogy. The books are the dark autobiography of an author who struggled with severe alcohol and drug addiction and mental health issues and tragically died by suicide in 1976. The covers were created over three years, with the intention of forming a single visual unit. The theme is interpreted through the selection and cropping of photographs focusing on shadows that depict the story’s development, while typographical interventions symbolize the abrupt mood shifts and phases the author went through.
