Project

The experimental book for the Interstellar novelization conceptually focuses on the idea of time nonlinearity and time travel. The plot of Interstellar connects events from the beginning and the end,  the protagonist ends up inside a black hole from which he sends messages through time. The main focus was on representing time as a physical object and visualizing linear events in a nonlinear way. The book is printed on a single B0 sheet of paper, which symbolizes time itself. When unfolded, the entire sheet reveals the story at once, creating the impression that everything happens simultaneously since all the text exists in one place. The layout design connects text blocks fluidly across the paper, creating a sense of continuity between pages. Paragraphs are fragmented to emphasize nonlinearity. When folded, the sheet presents a linear narrative, a book that can be flipped through. It’s folded in a snake fold structure, where pages are read in order but occasionally rotate, further highlighting the story’s nonlinearity. The print is double-sided. The final page is actually the middle of the story, and when reaching this end, the reading continues in reverse, leading back to the first page. The first page is both the beginning and the end of the book. It is printed on thin paper to increase transparency, allowing parts of the story from the opposite side to show through while reading, illustrating the idea of overlapping timelines.
