Project

NOMU are 100% natural, vegan, fermented non-cheeses made from organic cashews and almonds, free of lactose, gluten and additives. These are clean-label ecological products that age and mature in natural conditions. When eating NOMU, you feel like you’re tasting gorgonzola, brie or mozzarella, but in fact, you’re enjoying a perfect vegan cheese alternative. So, how do you name a cheese that isn’t cheese? Since the brand is named NOMU, it made sense to use the term non-cheeses, with the idea that doubling the negation works.

Behind the brand is Fermenta, and behind Fermenta is Minja Adriana—“infišana” (dialect: passionate, obsessed, fully dedicated) to fermented plant-based products, healthy ingredients and layered flavours. Initially, the plan was to brand vegan products made from cashews and almonds, but the project evolved into a story about Minja and her daily life. Different episodes from her everyday world are shown through clear, minimalist illustrations. Their role is to create an emotional bond with consumers and communicate the brand’s core values: 100% natural and honest.
The primary packaging is wrapping paper printed with the brand story, while the secondary packaging is a kraft bag sewn with a simple thread stitch, so NOMU, the fermented non-cheese, can still breathe. A paper label is added during stitching. All Fermenta episodes are used for social media and promotional materials, leaving room for new illustrations and ideas.

Kasheta is a creative agency specializing in branding and packaging design. The team develops innovative, effective and sustainable solutions that help producers stand out in the market and capture consumer attention. They believe that design must be thoughtful, with a clear communication message, and that packaging should highlight the brand’s core values. In addition, Kasheta has launched a webshop for ordering ready-made and personalized packaging with a focus on eco-friendly and biodegradable materials. The designers of the project NOMU isn’t cheese! are Jelena Poldrugovac and Korina Siljan, with illustrations by Jakov Šuran.
