Tradition and modernity are the wheels of time that jointly shape the Institute for Ethnic Studies’ vision of the future.
To mark its 100th anniversary, DBP Studio created a commemorative logo and a suite of communication materials that highlight the contemporary relevance of ethnic studies. The challenge was to convey a century of heritage in a modern and engaging way.
They preserved the Institute’s existing identity while introducing a fresh, creative presence. The design is built around the number 100, with the numeral one and two circles forming a symbolic base. The circles represent spheres of interaction, layered spaces where the Institute’s narrative unfolds.
The circular compositions enable modularity, combination, and fragmentation. Together they form a contemporary modular mark. The visual system is inspired by the idea of community: parts forming a whole, connecting and expanding. This echoes the Institute’s mission of researching ethnic communities and promoting coexistence.
The system allows playful variation across promotional materials while maintaining consistency. The typography is modern and structured. The color palette adds a celebratory tone. Outputs included posters, brochures, invitations, and more.
