Monograph Bekar: Prélude

Project

Bekar: Prélude is the first monograph dedicated to the work of Dušan Bekar. It features 250 selected works across 160 pages, offering a glimpse into his expansive and influential career. The text contributions by Ksenija Foretić, Marko Golub, Alira Hrabar Bekar, and Irma Puškarević provide various perspectives on his oeuvre. The bilingual publication follows Bekar’s creative journey as part of the development of Croatian graphic design in the second half of the 20th century. Starting his career in 1949 at the Ozeha agency, Bekar built a unique design vocabulary combining illustration, typography, calligraphy, photography, and three-dimensional elements. Throughout his career, Bekar developed complete projects; visual identities, product packaging, campaigns, and promotional materials, for numerous clients from the region (Bagat, Borovo, Fotokemika, Ghetaldus, Kreditna banka Zagreb, Labud, Marles, MTČ, Neva, RIS, TEŽ, Uljanik, Universiade '87, Upin, Velebit, Željezara Sisak…). His conceptual visual solutions have become part of the collective memory, and many; such as designs for Galeb, HEP, INA, Petrokemija, Podravka, Saponia, Borosana, and Startas, remain visible in everyday life today.
