Project

Čitata is a digital platform available on mobile devices, intended for children with developmental difficulties, as well as for all children who enjoy reading or need additional support. It enables inclusive reading and comprehension of literary content through a free mobile app, combining technology, art, and education to create a safe, accessible, and stimulating environment for reading development.
The app is available throughout Croatia and to Croatian children living abroad. The content includes adapted literary texts with visual and auditory support, comprehension questions and answers by chapter, syllable breakdowns, explanations of unfamiliar words, evaluation tools, daily reminders, offline reading options, and pronunciation practice. Stories are narrated by Croatian actors, and the content is developed by a team of experts in speech therapy, IT, education, and the arts. The project focuses on children in remote and underdeveloped areas, children who dislike reading or have difficulties with comprehension, and all young readers who want to develop their language and communication skills creatively. It is implemented through ongoing cooperation with parents, schools, libraries, and professionals, and has so far included more than 30 books for primary school children.

Author

Jelena Remetinis a multimedia artist whose work merges design, new technologies, and inclusive educational formats. She graduated in film and photography at  École Française d’Enseignement Technique in Paris and completed a specialization in virtual reality in cultural content at Centre Européen de Formation à la Production de Films in Paris. Her projects focus on accessibility, interactivity, and education, and have been featured in UNESCO programs, exhibitions at the UN headquarters, and numerous international events. Through the artistic organization YELO, she leads projects that connect culture, digital technologies, and inclusion. The visual identity and app design were developed in collaboration with Vana Bašić, a designer focused on socially engaged projects with experience in digital design and educational systems. With a minimalist and inclusive approach, she designed the Čitata app interface to be understandable, motivating, and accessible to children with various developmental needs. The project is further developed by an interdisciplinary team of experts in speech therapy, education, psychology, IT, and sound design. The app features voice recordings by Croatian actors and includes interactive tools that support children in understanding, pronunciation, and reading skill development.
