An armchair that blends modernist design with a space for reflection and self-discovery

Project

Exuvia is an armchair that explores the act of creating and reviving consciousness through design. The structure, made of stainless steel tubing and black leather, follows modernist design principles. Every element is functionally and aesthetically justified; there is no excess material. The armchair’s frame consists of two main profiles and four transverse tubes for structural stability. Sky leather is woven between the tubes to prevent deformation during use and to shape the armchair’s volume. Covering the structure in leather marks the final step of giving form its physical identity. Accompanying the chair is a booklet in which an imaginary character — the embodiment of the armchair — narrates its perspective as a newly formed consciousness, explaining its origins and purpose. Exuvia is not merely a chair but a symbolic threshold between the human and ideals of self-reflection: a place where the user, beyond rest, can reflect on who they are and who they might become.
