The project If it weren’t a specific way…, “Da ni nekak bilo…”, explores cultural continuity through the reinterpretation of traditional elements within the contemporary home.
Through a series of carefully crafted design solutions such as a contemporary take on the štokrlić and a console inspired by the custom of placing doilies on televisions and furniture the project shows how these seemingly forgotten details can be thoughtfully integrated into modern interiors, creating a space where past and present coexist harmoniously.
The project also includes a series of wall graphics that, through a contemporary visual language, reinterpret the aesthetics and symbolism of traditional tapestries, adding dynamism, color and layered storytelling to the space.
Supporting materials, such as brochures that can double as wall posters inspired by old embroidered kitchen cloths with verses, further expand the narrative dimension of the project.
The Memory Treasury serves as a research and emotional segment, dedicated to rethinking the ways memories are preserved through design inspired by family archives, albums and boxes.
This project does not nostalgically reconstruct the past but offers a carefully considered update, inviting a new reading of cultural heritage through contemporary design.
Nino Dolenc, Toni Bilić and Rina Crnjaković form a design team that emerged during their studies at the School of Design, Faculty of Architecture, University of Zagreb, where they focused on visual communications and product design.
Today, each of them pursues their own professional career in different design studios, but they continue to collaborate on self-initiated projects that bring together their diverse interests, skills and design approaches.
Together, they have achieved notable successes through award-winning works, victories in competitions and participation in the biennial exhibitions of the Croatian Designers Association. Their collaboration is based on researching contemporary themes and practices through interdisciplinary projects that push the boundaries of classic design disciplines.
