The Ščurek family winery, located in Plešivo (Goriška Brda), blends traditional architectural elements with contemporary forms, inspired by the region’s fertile soil. The multi-level structure adapts to the natural slope of the terrain, with terraces shaping its volume in earthy tones that reflect the surrounding landscape.
Exploring the winery is conceived like wine tasting – gradual, layered, and full of discovery. Indoor and outdoor spaces are seamlessly connected; courtyards and terraces extend the interior, supporting various microclimates: shaded in summer, sunlit in spring, sheltered from wind in colder months.
Traditional materials such as stone, wood, and terracotta are reinterpreted through a modern lens. The journey through different levels reveals shifting vistas and moods, encouraging return visits – just like returning to a favorite wine. The architecture provides intimate moments, human scale, and a deep connection to the land.
Studio Tina Rugelj is a Ljubljana-based design practice founded in 2011, working across architecture, interior, and product design. Known for its thoughtful approach and strong emphasis on craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics, the studio guides clients from initial concepts to final execution.
In collaboration with Kombinat Architects, they co-designed the architectural concept, merging their distinct sensibilities into a unified vision. Kombinat is a collective office established in 2008 in Ljubljana, with a portfolio spanning architecture, urban planning, and interior design, recognised for its contextual sensitivity and innovation in residential, public, and award-winning urban projects.
