Exhibition Design of BIO28 — the 28th Biennial of Design

Project

Urška and Jure Sadar (Studio Sadar) designed the exhibition setup for the 28th edition of the Biennial of Design titled Double Agent: Do You Speak Flower?, curated by Alexandra Midal. The exhibition was held at two venues – the Museum of Architecture and Design and Isis Gallery – and was structured around thematic sections.

The setup merges vertical origami-inspired folded walls with minimalist horizontal plinths, reflecting the duality in the exhibition’s title. Instead of traditional gallery walls, Studio Sadar introduced cut, stacked, and folded wall elements that generate varied spatial situations and house the exhibits. The horizontal plinths allow artworks to be observed from above, while the vertical elements divide large rooms into smaller, more intimate settings.

Natural daylight plays an essential role, interacting with the walls and plinths throughout the day, enhancing the conceptual reference to flowers, whose symbolism can shift depending on time and context. The exhibition offers a layered and immersive experience, prompting visitors to reflect on design’s evolving role in society.
