Aline Gerards is a Dutch social designer, who graduated from the Design academy Eindhoven in 2019. She wants to help people express experiences, needs and emotions in times that they might not be able to do that by themselves. Therefore her work centres around translating and communicating emotion, through which she wants to create a connection with others.
A series of stop-motion animations that convey what it feels like to live with depression.
When someone you love suffers from depression, your relationship with them can come under a lot of pressure. Often there is a lack of communication and understanding towards each other.
In her animations and the related website and Instagram account, Aline Gerards aims to create a space where people can explore what someone with depression is going through. Aline spoke to many suffering from depression to create visual translations of their experiences. Her images are a way to convey complex emotions more intuitively than words.
