Research by the World Health Organisation showed that half of mental disorders begin before age of 14. In Croatia, about 44,000 children aged 10 to 19 have mental health problems, but most of them don’t have a habit of talking about it. The main reasons for that are their own insecurities, lack of information and underestimating the importance of caring about their thoughts and feelings.
That’s why Wiener Insurance collaborated with experts of the Brave Phone to start a new project — Mental hygiene, an educational platform that encourages children to develop habits of mental health care.
The communication of platform was based on the comparison between the maintenance of mental health care and the maintenance of physical hygiene. Using familiar terms of self-care and suitable visual language, the topic of mental hygiene was brought closer to the primary target group of the initiative — kids. Thus, the main messages became paraphrases of everyday sayings related to physical hygiene, and in the visual expression, they were communicated by illustrated characters like soap, cream or mirror.
